This two-morning, standard level online course provides an overview of the universal credit (UC) rules for ill and disabled claimants.
Focusing on the work capability assessment, which has a crucial role in determining claimants’ UC income and their work-related requirements, the course also looks at the protections for ill and disabled people moving between benefits, rules for disabled workers, and ‘reasonable adjustments’ for UC-related appointments.
The course covers:
- The steps in the work capability assessment process for UC
- The work capability criteria and how to challenge decisions
- The rules on work-related requirements for ill and disabled claimants
- How work affects the UC award for disabled claimants
- Transitional rules for those moving to UC from employment and support allowance
- How disability benefits like PIP may affect UC claimants
This course is aimed at advisers with a working knowledge of UC.
Method of delivery and timings
This full-day equivalent, standard-level course, is delivered online via Zoom over two consecutive mornings. It runs from 10am to 1pm on each day, with a half hour break between 11.15am-11.45am.
It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
