About the Early Warning System
The Early Warning System gathers information and case studies about families and individuals affected by changes to the benefit system.
We analyse enquiries made to our advice service, anonymous submissions from advisers and cases referred to us by other CPAG projects to identify emerging problems, areas of concern and examples of particular problems.
By gathering data direct from advisers and claimants we can better:
- Explain the impact of welfare reforms to politicians and the media
- Suggest improvements to the social security system which would reduce child poverty and make the system fairer
- Promote solutions advisers can use to support their clients when things go wrong
- Inform our policy work, training and information resources
In England and Wales, the Early Warning System is funded by the Legal Education Foundation and an Improving Lives Through Advice grant from the Access to Justice Foundation and the National Lottery Community Fund.
In Scotland, the Early Warning System is supported by Children, Young People & Families Early Intervention Fundervention Fund, managed on behalf of the Scottish Government by CORRA foundation.
