Scottish adult disability living allowance (SADLA) is replacing disability living allowance (DLA) for adults living in Scotland who still get disability living allowance.
Adults who are 18 or over, getting DLA and who live in Scotland will move to SADLA. SADLA is a ‘closed benefit’, which means you cannot make a new claim for it. It is only for people who are already getting DLA and who live in Scotland.
SADLA is administered and paid by Social Security Scotland (SSS), whereas DLA is administered and paid for by the DWP.
SADLA has two components: the care component and the mobility component. You can get one of these or both of them. The care component has three possible rates (lowest, middle and highest) and the mobility component has two possible rates (lower and higher).
You will transfer onto the equivalent rate of benefit, so you should still get the same amount.
People who are eligible will move to SADLA from DLA automatically. You do not need to make a new claim or go through a new assessment. Before you are transferred, you should continue to report any changes to the DWP.
If you disagree with a decision made by Social Security Scotland aobut SADLA you can challenge this decision.
