Scottish carer supplement is an extra payment for carers who get carer support payment. It has replaced carer's allowance supplement. Carer's allowance supplement was paid as a lump sum twice a year for carers who were getting carer support payment on the qualifying dates. The Scottish carer supplement is paid weekly, alongside carer support payment.
You are entitled to the Scottish carer supplement for each week in which you are receiving carer support payment. You are not eligible for the Scottish carer supplement if you only have underlying entitlement to carer support payment or you get a carer element in your universal credit but do not get carer support payment.
If you get a carer element in your universal credit you should claim carer support payment in order to get a Scottish carer supplement. However, if your earnings are too high to get carer support payment, then you cannot do this.
