CPAG's Upper Tribunal assistance project can provide advice and assistance to advisers and support workers helping claimants to challenge tribunal decisions in welfare benefit and tax credit cases.
The support provided includes:
We are able to correspond with you about the case via email and telephone and can review the tribunal papers.
You are eligible to access the service if you are an adviser or support worker working to provide free advice and assistance to benefit or tax credit claimants living in England or Wales.
You can access the service if you have a client who is unhappy with the outcome of an appeal to the First-tier Tribunal and you want help in advising/assisting them to challenge the decision.
To access the Upper Tribunal assistance project service please fill in the online referral form.
PLEASE NOTE: We may not be able to respond to a new referral until 29 April 2024. This means that if you have a deadline sooner than this you should ensure that you make an application. If the case has reached the stage where an appeal or application for permission to appeal can be made to the Upper Tribunal then your client may be able to secure legal help if referred to an organisation with a legal aid welfare benefits contract.
Please be aware before accessing the service of any deadlines that apply in the case.
This work is funded by the Legal Education Foundation and an Improving Lives Through Advice grant from the Access to Justice Foundation and the National Lottery Community Fund.
