About this course
This course gives you the essential skills to get universal credit decisions changed. There are different ways to legally change a decision. To be effective, you need to identify which applies in your client’s case. It might be a mandatory reconsideration, revision or supersession. In some cases, a complaint, dispute or judicial review might be the more appropriate course of action. The same processes apply to other DWP benefits.
This course explains the jargon and takes a practical, problem-solving approach to help advisers identify the right way to get decisions changed and get processes unblocked, and so get the best outcome for claimants.
The course covers:
- Understanding the jargon
- The claim and decision making process
- When to ask for revisions or supersessions
- When mandatory reconsideration rules apply
- When to appeal
- When to use complaints, disputes and judicial reviews
- Practical considerations and tactics
This course does not cover decisions made by Social Security Scotland. See our related course, Changing decisions – Scottish benefits.
The course will be delivered online via Zoom from 10am to 1pm each day with a half hour break from 11.15 – 11.45. It is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
