Benefits for EEA nationals

About this course

The requirement to have a right to reside for key benefits such as universal credit, remains a significant barrier preventing many EEA nationals accessing these benefits.  In addition, the immigration status restrictions pose a separate barrier, which affects increasing numbers of EEA nationals in the UK.  The law affecting the entitlements of EEA nationals continues to evolve and, to most effectively assist EEA nationals, it is vital that advisers keep up to date.

This standard level course offers a step-by-step approach to enable advisers to ask the key questions and gather the information most useful when assisting EEA nationals to obtain their benefit entitlements. 

The course covers:

• The requirements that restrict access to benefits for EEA nationals in the UK
• The main groups that can satisfy the right to reside test
• How to advise EEA nationals with pre-settled status
• What EEA nationals may be able to do to access key benefits such as universal credit

This course is aimed at those who advise European nationals in Scotland on their benefit entitlements. If you also advise non-European nationals you should also book on the course Benefits for non-EEA nationals.

The course will be delivered online via Zoom from 10am to 1pm each day with a half hour break from 11.15 – 11.45. 

It is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
