About this course
This course is essential for welfare rights advisers in Scotland who want to challenge decisions of the First-tier Tribunal effectively. It will help you navigate the separate appeals procedures for benefits delivered by Social Security Scotland and the DWP. Appeals at this stage are based on an error of law. The course will give you practice and confidence in finding errors of law in the First-tier Tribunal statement of reasons.
The course covers:
- Ways of changing First-tier Tribunal decisions
- Procedures before and during an appeal
- Finding errors of law in the statement of reasons
- Drafting an application
- What to expect at a hearing
Some experience of representing at the First-tier Tribunal is essential.
The course will be delivered online via Zoom from 10am to 1pm each day with a half hour break from 11.15 – 11.45.
It is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
