Seminar - Scottish benefit appeals in action Thursday 28 November 2024

As we pass the sixth anniversary of Scotland’s social security system, over a million people get support from Social Security Scotland. Appeals for adult disability payment and other Scottish benefits are becoming an important and growing part of an adviser’s case work.

CPAG in Scotland’s welfare rights seminar provides a timely opportunity to take stock of where we are at with Scottish benefit appeals – what are the differences, what are the challenges, what caselaw is emerging? We will look at process and tactics and provide an update and analysis of Scottish social security caselaw.

Thank you for joining us at our Seminar. Supplementary materials are below.

A copy of the slide presentations will be added after the event.

Winning Your Benefit Appeal: what you need to know, 5th ed

Essential information you need in order to prepare and present a successful appeal at the First-tier Tribunal.

You don’t need to be an expert on the social security system – Winning Your Benefit Appeal: what you need to know will help you through the process, avoid the pitfalls and maximise your clients’ chances of success.

This new edition outlines the whole appeals process, from preparing an appeal and writing a submission, to what happens at the hearing, getting the decision and what may happen afterwards. It will help to maximise the chances of a successful appeal.

Plenty of examples and practical tips, particularly to help with appeals about illness and disability, a useful glossary of terms and a sample submission are included.
