CPAG's new patron: Armando Iannucci
We are delighted that Armando Iannucci, the fantastic writer, director and broadcaster, is CPAG’s new patron.
Armando was pivotal in the success of our Radio 4 appeal earlier this year, which raised over £35,000 for our work in schools to make sure poverty isn’t a barrier to any child’s education.
He’s also been very supportive of our campaigning on the social security system, using his profile to increase the reach and impact of our work.
Armando said:
"Now more than ever the issue of poverty in Britain is forefront in everyone’s minds. I’m keen to do as much as I can to highlight what positive efforts can be done to address and hopefully alleviate childhood poverty and the stigma attached to it, so that everyone can grow up with the same opportunities to flourish in the UK."
We’re really looking forward to continuing to work with Armando, and are very grateful for his support.
This is a worrying time for so many families. Our research shows that 800,000 children growing up in poverty in England are not eligible for free school meals, and 200,000 more children will be pushed into poverty if benefits are uprated by wages rather than inflation. Our campaigning for action to prevent and reduce child poverty across the UK is vital and urgent.
