About this course
This practical course is essential for representatives and advisers who want to be more confident in representing clients in social security appeal hearings in the First-tier Tribunal. It equips you with the skills you need to handle hearings by phone, video or in person and make sure your client has the best chance of success. You will gain confidence by practicing skills and sharing tactics.
The course covers:
- What happens in a hearing
- The role of the representative
- Practical skills in a hearing
- Supporting your client
This course is for advisers who will be taking part in hearings with clients. It looks at how to handle an appeal on the day but does not deal with how to prepare a submission before the hearing.
An expanded version of this course is also available to attend in person at our office in London - Adviser skills - representing at the First-Tier Tribunal | CPAG
The expanded course covers similar material on the first day, but includes a second where participants can put their learning into action and experience what it is like to prepare for and attend a Tribunal hearing in a safe, supportive environment by preparing for and taking part in mock tribunals with the other course participants.
