Before the course
You can join from any internet-enabled device, however we strongly recommend using a desktop or laptop computer. You should be able to join using your usual web browser. You may be prompted to update to the latest version of Zoom so it's a good idea to do this before the day of the course.
We'll send you an email a few days before the course with a link to a page where you'll find:
- a link to join the live training on Zoom
- the course materials
- an evaluation form for you to complete at the end of the course
If you've not used Zoom before, you can try it out in advance at zoom.us/test. This allows you to test your internet connection, and make sure your audio and video work. You can also have a practice at opening documents on your computer so you can see both at the same time, as you may want to do this during the course to look at the course materials.
Joining the course
To join the training, click on the Zoom link. Each training course has its own unique link.
Please try to join the training early. Our trainer will begin admitting participants from the waiting room around ten minutes before the start of the course.
Your microphone will be on mute when you join the Zoom training. This is so that background noise doesn't interrupt the trainer whilst they're presenting. Please remain muted unless you're speaking.
If you're having trouble hearing, select the arrow by the mute button in the settings bar and check which speakers are being used. Remember to turn up the volume on your computer.
During the course
Choose somewhere to join the course that is comfortable, has good internet connection and has minimal distractions.
We encourage you to have your camera on during the course. If you need to temporarily disable it, select the camera icon in the bottom left-hand corner.
Questions
If you have any questions during the training, please use the chat function in the settings bar. Or if you prefer, you can raise your hand digitally to let the trainer know that you'd like to speak. Just select the icon labelled 'Participants' at the bottom of your screen then use the button labelled 'Raise Hand'.
Polls
The training may include polls that offer single or multiple-choice answers. Each poll is anonymous, and their object is to test your knowledge and understanding of the training materials. We don't retain your poll responses and there are no individual scores for you to be concerned with.
At the end of the course
We'll ask you to complete the online course evaluation form.
