About this course
This practical one-morning course will give advisers more confidence about the different forms of support for carers in the benefits system. With a focus on carers’ allowance and the carer element of universal credit, the course explains which claimants can get these, how much they are worth, and how the two interact. The course also looks at carer premiums and additions in other benefits.
The course covers:
- Carers’ allowance
- The carer element of UC
- Extra amounts for carers getting pension credit or housing benefit
- Spotting underpayments
- Dealing with overpayments
Method of delivery and timings
This half-day standard-level course is delivered online via Zoom. It runs from 10am to 1pm, with a half hour break between 11.15am-11.45am.
It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
