About this course
Whatever your normal client group, it’s likely that you support some unpaid carers. This practical one-morning course is aimed at advisers who want to know more about the benefits available to carers. If you want to deliver better benefit checks, want to help clients avoid unforeseen consequences of claiming carer’s allowance, and want to be ready for advice queries about backdating or overpayments, this course is for you.
The course covers:
- Carers’ allowance – who can get it, how is it claimed and paid, and how does it affect other benefits
- The carer element of universal credit (UC)
- Extra amounts for carers getting pension credit or housing benefit
- Start dates, backdating and underpayments
- Dealing with overpayments
- UC work-related requirements for carers
Method of delivery and timings
This half-day standard-level course is delivered online via Zoom. It runs from 10am to 1pm, with a half hour break between 11.15am-11.45am.
It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
