Benefits for carers in Scotland

About this course
Benefits for carers have changed in Scotland. Carer support payment provides essential financial support and gives carers access to additional payments if they care for more than one person or are on a low income. The choices for people to maximise their household income can be complicated, particularly for disabled carers, but also for carers who want to combine their caring role with education or work. Good advice is key to helping carers take up all their opportunities and entitlements. In this course, you will learn how the payments in Scotland work, how they fit with universal credit and how to maximise incomes for carers.
The course covers:
- Carer support payment – who can get it and main rules
- Carer additional person payment – maximising household entitlement
- Scottish carer supplement
- Universal credit carer element, and carer amounts in pension credit and housing benefit
- Carers and the transitional element of universal credit
- Universal credit work-related requirements for carers
- Disabled carers, student carers and other circumstances
The course will be delivered online via Zoom from 10am to 1pm.
It is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
