Open online learning sessions
‘Getting ready to tackle the Cost of the School Day’ is a new online learning session for pupils in time for Challenge Poverty Week. It will support young people to:
- understand more about child poverty
- have conversations about it's impact
- explore what poverty looks like at school
- look at how pupil groups can take anti-poverty action in their settings
This session will run regularly throughout the school year and is open to any interested group. Whether you are working with young people who are new to cost of the school day or just want your group to have a refresher, this session aims to help pupil groups have the knowledge and confidence to carry out equity in their schools.
We will share updates on dates and information on how to register your group for these sessions with Voice network members.

Getting your group online
Our online meetings and learning sessions take place on Microsoft Teams. We'll send the link in advance to Voice network leaders, and we ask that leaders support their group to get online and take part.
- Can you unmute? If you are able to, we welcome pupils speaking and sharing their thoughts.
- Camera on? If appropriate and possible, it's great to see pupils on camera.
- Use the chat function. Pupils and their leaders can share ideas, answer questions, or ask questions through the chat.
- Join as a small group or whole class. You might have a small group of pupils gathered around a laptop or device, working together, or the meeting could be displayed on a large whiteboard or screen so the whole class can see and take part.
- Other ways to interact. We might also ask groups to use other functions such as thumbs up, hand signals, or polls.
