PM must follow up on Education Secretary’s ‘guarantee’ to reduce child poverty
Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) welcomes today’s “… guarantee…” from Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson that child poverty will be lower at the end of this parliament than when government took office but, the charity warns, the reduction won’t happen without scrapping the two-child limit and the Prime Minister is yet to commit to abolition of the policy.
Chief Executive of CPAG Alison Garnham said:
The Secretary of State’s determination to lift children out of poverty is clear for all to see. The Prime Minister must now unequivocally back the full abolition of the two-child limit in his conference speech tomorrow.
Note to editors:
Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson today told the Labour conference:
“… I am determined that child poverty will be lower at the end of this parliament than at the start. And more than that, Conference, I guarantee it.”
