"Crumbs of comfort" leave children exposed to cost of living crisis this winter, say child poverty campaigners
Responding to the UK Chancellor's Budget statement John Dickie, Director of the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) in Scotland, said:
"There were crumbs of comfort for struggling families from the UK Chancellor today but the flat-rate energy support measures in England take no account of the presence of children in a household, leaving millions of vulnerable children exposed this winter. Hard-pressed families will only feel fresh hope when governments provide targeted and substantive support to keep them afloat as living costs rise.
All eyes now turn to the Scottish Budget. It's vital that any Scottish cost of living support reflects the extra costs of children and supports the Holyrood government's child poverty mission. A boost to Scottish child payment would be the most effective and efficient way to deliver the support hard up families so desperately need up here."
