Applications open for the first Cost of the School Day Young People Summit
Our Cost of the School Day Young People Summit 2025 will take place in The Social Hub in Glasgow on 30 September. Schools can apply for places for two young people and a member of staff.
Designed for young people by young people, this event is for pupils P5 to S6 who are passionate about taking action on poverty and having their voices heard. They’ll have the chance to share learning, have fun, quiz top politicians like the Cabinet Secretary for Education, take part in exciting skills workshops and be part of creating a children’s poverty and education manifesto in advance of thee 2026 Scottish elections.
The summit’s youth planning committee say this summit will help other young people to have the confidence to speak out and make sure that the Cost of the School Day is someone everyone knows about, thinks about and takes action on.
A committee member described how important this work is:
Young people are the seeds for a better Scotland. If we don’t get what we need to grow, then we can’t reach our potential. That’s the reality for many children in Scotland. We need to eradicate child poverty so the next generation does not have to be affected.
This is a free event with space for 35 schools to attend. To make sure that people from all over Scotland can take part, we can help with travel and accommodation costs if needed.
