Universal credit for ill health and disability
About this course
This course looks at the universal credit (UC) rules that particularly affect ill or disabled people. It will equip you to advise clients who are claiming or need to claim UC, including the importance of the work capability assessment.
The course covers:
- The latest rules on when ill and disabled people may need to claim UC, and the consequences of claiming
- An overview of transitional rules for those previously on legacy benefits
- How to deal with delays and challenge decisions on limited capability for work
- The consequences of work capability assessment outcomes in UC
- The interaction of disability benefits and the UC calculation
- How work affects the UC award for disabled claimants
This course is aimed at advisers in Scotland with an understanding of the UC calculation and knowledge of the work capability assessment.
The course will be delivered online via Zoom from 10am to 1pm each day with a half hour break from 11.15 – 11.45.
It is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
