What can your group get involved with?
Help share young people's poverty and education priorities with the new government
School Shouldn't Cost: Young People's Poverty and Education Manifesto 2026-31 is full of what children and young people have said should happen to remove barriers and make school better for people living on low incomes.
To help share these calls before the Scottish Parliament election, Voice network members met with the First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and held a special School Shouldn't Cost reception at Parliament. We know that lots of you got in touch with politicians and candidates in your area to tell them about School Shouldn't Cost too.
In the coming months there will be lots of new and returning MSPs at the Scottish Parliament, and opportunities for Voice network members to carry on influencing policy by speaking to them. There will be more details about this to come very soon but in the meantime get in touch at [email protected] if this is something you would like to be involved in.
Design a Resource
We’re looking for pupils to join an exciting project in the next school year, to create a fun, practical “How To” resource for young people and teachers to use in schools across Scotland.
Lots of amazing pupil groups are already leading anti-poverty work in their schools, and this 'How to' will share their experience, to encourage even more schools to get involved and take action. This 'How to' might include: the best ways to set up a Cost of the School Day group, what support pupils need from the adults around them and top tips to carry out this work.
Young people will be:
- Sharing ideas and building confidence
- Promoting the final resource with schools and other interested parties
- Creating a resource that helps make a difference and improve school life for everyone
Sessions will be a mixture of online meetings, and some in person planning with full support from us to help your young people take part. Any travel costs will be covered and there will be thank you vouchers and a certificate for the young people who get involved.
Whether learners in your group like to come up with ideas, work with others, create designs, or speak up, we'd love to hear from them. Email us at [email protected]
