Webinar - April Rules: Upcoming benefit changes
Next date
About this course
April 2026 marks the end of the road for managed migration, a turning-point for families with more than two children and a painful new chapter for many disabled universal credit (UC) claimants.
When new rules are being laid down in every corner of the benefit system – from the minor changes to the major resets – this unmissable webinar provides a clear summary of everything advisers need to know.
This session is open to advisers of all experience levels but assumes some background knowledge about the UC rules.
Topics covered include:
- The end of legacy benefits. The webinar will provide an update on managed migration and consider best practice from April onwards.
- Reduction of the LCWRA element in UC. We summarise the new rules and take a look at the three main protected groups.
- Abolition of the two-child limit. We will highlight the different possible consequences of this change, including for clients who have a UC transitional element or transitional severe disability premium element.
- Rising state pension age. We explain what is happening in 2026/27.
- Policy changes to PIP. The webinar will look at how the government plans to change PIP award lengths from April.
- New rules on voluntary NI contributions. We consider these changes, which are likely to affect clients moving to or emigrating from the UK.
Speakers will include:
Carri Swann: CPAG welfare rights adviser and training officer
Owen Stevens: CPAG welfare rights adviser specialising in UC advice
Sam Scarlett: CPAG trainer and Welfare Benefits Caseworker currently working in a specialist benefits role for the NHS.
The webinar will be facilitated by Martin Williams: CPAG welfare rights adviser.
