About this course
This one-morning course gives a practical overview of the universal credit rules for further and higher education students.
The course explains which students can get UC and who is not entitled, before consider claimant commitments, and highlighting how grants and loans can affect the amount of UC that a student receives.
Using practical examples, the course identifies recurring issues and equips advisers with best-practice tips for supporting their clients.
The course covers:
- Universal credit eligibility for students
- Work-related requirements while studying
- How grants, loans and other student support affect UC
- Course types, and changes in education status
This course is aimed at advisers who are familiar with the main UC rules.
Method of delivery and timings
This half-day standard-level course is delivered online via Zoom. It runs from 10am to 1pm, with a half hour break between 11.15am-11.45am.
It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
