Universal credit and students

About this course

This course explains in detail which students can claim universal credit and how student funding affects the amount they get. It also covers managed and natural migration to universal credit. 

The course covers: 

• An overview of universal credit
• Who is a full-time student for universal credit
• Which students can claim and how to manage a claim
• The interaction with Scottish student funding – student loans, further education bursaries, discretionary funds and other funding
• Managed and natural migration to universal credit
• Passporting benefits

The course will be delivered online via Zoom from 10am to 1pm each day with a half hour break from 11.15 – 11.45. It is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
