Managed migration: the transitional element of UC
Next date
About this course
Managed migration is the final stage in the move to universal credit. In the next 18 months, almost all claimants of legacy benefits will receive a migration notice giving them a deadline to claim UC instead.
If they apply by their deadline, claimants are likely to be considered for transitional protection on UC, including a financial top-up called the transitional element.
This course, aimed at advisers familiar with the main managed migration rules, focuses on how to calculate the transitional element, including how the amount changes over time.
By the end of the course, you should:
- Have an up-to-date understanding of the transitional protection available upon managed migration to UC.
- Be able to confidently calculate a client’s transitional element.
- Understand which changes reduce or end a transitional element.
- Be able to give strategic advice about the timing of migration.
Please note that this course is relevant for advisers based in England and Wales.
