Students and benefits project Scotland | CPAG

Students and benefits project Scotland

This project aims to increase the number of low income students in Scotland in further and higher education and reduce the impact of poverty on students who access such educational opportunities.

  • We provide training on all aspects of benefits for student advisers and can offer any of these courses in-house at your workplace or a venue which suits you.
  • We produce a range of factsheets on different aspects of benefits for students in Scotland. Explore all our students and benefits resources below.
  • Our quarterly ebulletin keeps you up to date with changes in benefits that may affect students. You can read past editions, and sign up to receive the next e-bulletin here.
  • We produce the Benefits for students in Scotland handbook, updated each academic year.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS COURSES

INTRODUCTION TO BENEFITS FOR STUDENT ADVISERS

(Scotland) This one-day course equips advisers and frontline workers who are new to benefits with a basic knowledge of social security benefits, including universal credit and tax credits, and explains which ones further and higher education students can claim.

STUDENTS AND BENEFITS - ELIGIBILITY

(Scotland) Many advisers work with students in both further and higher education. This one-day course explains the different benefits that further and higher education students can claim, including universal credit.

STUDENTS AND BENEFITS - AN UPDATE

This essential half-day course focuses on recent developments and forthcoming changes in benefits and tax credits aimed specifically at students, and the impact more general changes might have on students.

UNIVERSAL CREDIT AND STUDENTS

With the introduction of universal credit, the benefit rules for students as we know them are swept away and new rules set up in their place.
