    PM David Cameron announced today that he wants all domestic government policies subjected to a ‘family test’, apparently to ensure that families aren’t undermined or made worse off financially.  But does the ‘family test’ itself pass the test?

    As families come in all shapes and sizes – they all need and deserve the kind of protection that a ‘family test’ promises to provide. On the issue of child maintenance payments for lone parents, we argue that the family test needs more work.

  • Council's tax policy ruled unlawful for penalising the poor

    CPAG has won a legal test case for three vulnerable women who were charged a higher rate of council tax because they only recently moved into the area. The High Court struck down Sandwell Council's policy of refusing a council tax reduction to anyone who had not lived in the area for at least two years.
