Doing better for families

Dominic Richardson summarises the OECD’s recent report on families, revealing some of the issues faced and how we might do better.

The expectation on family polices to balance multiple objectives is greater now than ever before. Across the countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), child poverty rates are increasing despite consistent levels of investment in families, more parents entering work and innovation in family polices. To add to this, changes in family formation, and employment and education patterns, together with pressures to consolidate public budgets, have created a serious challenge for countries.
