This course looks in detail at the benefits delivered by Social Security Scotland, including the Scottish child payment. It gives an update on the Scottish government’s future plans. Aimed at advisers with a working knowledge of the benefits system, it explains the more complex entitlement rules, and how the decision-making processes are different in the new Scottish system.
The course covers:
• The detail of who is entitled to the current Scottish benefits
• Claiming Scottish benefits
• Redeterminations and appeals
• Changes of circumstances
• Future plans
This standard level course is aimed at advisers with a working knowledge of the benefits system. Less experienced advisers should consider 'Scottish social security – an introduction' on 9 March 2021, and support workers helping families with questions about benefits should consider ‘Payments for children in Scotland’ on 26 January 2021 instead.

This is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
