This essential one-day course, held over two mornings, is aimed at non-benefit staff and volunteers working with people for whom benefits are an issue.
It provides a comprehensive introduction to the benefits and tax credits system and enables staff to complete basic income maximisation checks on behalf of clients, tenants and service users.

The structure of the benefit system
The different categories of benefits
Basic entitlement to different benefits
The basic rules of universal credit and how to claim
Who is affected by the benefit cap
When and how to challenge decisions
Methods of delivery and timings
This full-day Basic level course runs from 10.00 to 13.00 across two mornings, with a 30 minute break on each day at 11.15. It is delivered live online, via Zoom, with CPAG trainer Barbara Alexander.
It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will be provided with supporting e-learning material, including PowerPoint slides and access to exercises and activities hosted on CPAG’s e-learning platform.
