Benefits for Non-Benefit Advisers, 22 & 23 February 2024 ONLINE

This essential one-day course, held over two mornings, is aimed at non-benefit staff and volunteers working with people for whom benefits are an issue. 

It provides a comprehensive overview of the benefits and tax credits system and enables staff to complete basic income maximisation checks on behalf of clients, tenants and service users.

The course covers:

• The structure of the benefit system
• The different categories of benefits
• Basic entitlement to different benefits
• The basic rules of universal credit and how to claim
• The benefit cap
• When and how to challenge decisions

Methods of delivery and timings

This full-day Basic level course runs from 10am to 1pm, across two consecutive mornings, with a 30 minute break on each day at 11.15am. It is delivered live online, via Zoom, with CPAG trainer Barbara Alexander.

It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will be provided with supporting e-learning material, including PowerPoint slides and training packs, hosted on CPAG’s e-learning platform.

What you will need

Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. Prior to the event, participants will receive an email with a link which they should use to join the event and access supporting materials.
