POLICY & CAMPAIGNS

We are the leading charity working on child poverty in the UK, and have over 50 years of experience and expertise. We build evidence on what causes poverty and the impact it has on children's lives, and then campaign for policies that will prevent and solve poverty - for good.

What we're calling for

Child poverty: a national priority

Child poverty responds to government policy. When it's prioritised across government, significant progress can be made. When it isn’t, child poverty rises.

Children's benefits and cost of living

Rising costs and stagnating wages contribute to the squeeze on family incomes, which has been made worse by benefit freezes, the benefit cap and the two-child limit.

universal credit

Cuts to universal credit are making families worse off, and problems with how the system is delivered need to be addressed urgently.

Crisis point

Unfair sanctions, and benefit delays and errors, are contributing to the demand for food banks. Sanctions should be a last resort, and people should have access to good advice and benefit advances.

Childcare

Childcare enables many people to work, but it's the single most expensive item in the budgets of many families with small children.

life chances

All children deserve a childhood free of financial hardship and a fair chance to reach their full potential in adulthood.

Tell us your story

If you have experience of any of the problems above - with benefits, costs or childcare for example, please share your story with us.

We always need people's experiences to show why change is needed.
