Schools across Wales are working hard to ensure the inclusion and participation of children from low-income families. However, this briefing highlights areas repeatedly brought up by children, their families and by school staff as barriers that prevent learners from taking part, feeling happy and being able to make the most of the school day.
We believe that action from Welsh Government to break down these barriers will make a real difference to children and families living on low incomes. The briefing makes recommendations for Welsh Government across several areas including uniform and school trips.
Our UK Cost of the School Day project works with schools and local authorities in Wales, England and Scotland to ensure that all children, regardless of financial background, can take part and be happy at school.
