Representing at the first-tier Tribunal
This popular two-day course provides a basic grounding in representing clients at the First-tier Tribunal. Through using the Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits Handbook, legislation books, writing submissions and mock tribunals, participants gain experience in a safe environment where there is nothing to lose.
The course covers:
- The appeal system
- Making an appeal
- Tribunal Procedure Rules (Social Entitlement Chamber)
- Case preparation – finding the law, getting evidence, and applying the law to write a clear and concise submission
- The roles of the judge; presenting officers; and representatives
- Rules of evidence
- Advocacy and presentational skills
This course is aimed at advisers with a working knowledge of benefits and little or no experience of representing at tribunals.
